4th of July Celebrations Across the Kansas City Metro
To us, 4th of July means family, food, fun, and fireworks,so we've rounded up a few places to join into the celebration Kansas City style.
Independence Day at Missouri Town 1855
Celebrate Independence Day as the staff and volunteers take you back to 1855 and share how the important date was celebrated. Experience hearth cooking, enjoy period music and engage in special speeches which will be made commemorating the anniversary of independence from Great Britain. Guests are invited to join in a noon parade through the recreated antebellum community.
Independence Day at Fort Osage The year is 1812. The soldiers and residents of this remote outpost on the American Frontier are commemorating the anniversary of their independence against the rumors of another impending war with Great Britain. Toasts are made and speeches are given, and you won’t want to miss the firings of the cannons, muskets and military drills. Be a witness to history and reflect on how our contemporary celebrations contrast with those of our ancestors.

Counselors at the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) at the Area 1 Agency on Aging recently attended extensive training sessions that focused on the new laws passed for health care reform. The two bills are the Patient Protection and Affordability Care Act of 2010 and Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010. The new legislation is wide-ranging and includes many changes to our health care system that will begin this year and continue to be implemented for the next several years.
Seniors should know that the new laws do not include any cuts to guaranteed Medicare benefits, according to Martha Johnson, HICAP manager. Medicare beneficiaries will be receiving a brochure from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services soon, outlining changes and improvements to their Medicare coverage.
